You’ve probably heard of micro-needling. If you haven’t, well, it just happens to be one of the most popular skin care treatments available. It’s quick, easy, affordable, and most importantly, incredibly safe, with little to no maintenance required before and after the procedure.
Well, if that sounds great, you’d be surprised to hear that doctors have hit a new milestone by taking micro-needling to the next level, with platelet-rich plasma, or PRP. Thus, micro-needling with PRP is catching on in the rest of the beauty industry as another way of doing an already amazing skin treatment, with its own added benefits and even greater results.
The procedure itself involves a specialized tool being glided all across your skin, making micro-scoping holes with its needles. As the needles poke the holes, which barely even penetrate the skin, they activate the skin’s natural regenerative abilities, which then refill the holes, replacing the previously dry and old skin cells, with fresh, smoother, suppler ones.
This directly affects the surface of the skin, as it becomes noticeably smoother, firmer and more hydrated. As dead, old skin is picked away, new cells come to replace it.
And this is where micro-needling with PRP comes in.
Platelets themselves are the tiny particles in the blood that are responsible for covering up any wounds in your body. While they obviously can’t cover up bigger wounds, they can tighten around smaller ones, keeping any more blood from spilling out or infections from getting in. Thus, platelets have an amazing regenerative ability and are able to repair the damage that’s been done to the skin.
Now, in order to make PRP, platelets are extracted from the blood through special equipment. Once it has been extracted, it is then used in conjunction with micro-needling and the platelets greatly assist in regenerating the skin cells which will replace the old ones, following the micro-needling.
You. That’s the simple answer, but it pretty much does. The platelets are extracted from you very blood, to then later be used for the procedure. This has its own benefits. First of all, it comes from your body, so you don’t have to worry about it having some kind of weird chemicals that you don’t know. It’s literally your own blood.
Another benefit to extracting it from your own blood is that you can be sure that your body will accept it. There’s sometimes a problem that comes with using chemicals in skin procedures, that perhaps the person may be allergic to it and their body won’t react well. But since PRP comes from your own body, you have nothing to worry about when it comes to your body accepting it.
Micro-needling with PRP is pretty much the same procedure as the standard one, but with an added extra step of the platelet application. Once the holes have been poked with the micro-needling tool, the specialist will then apply it to the part of the skin where the micro-needling has been done. The platelets will then seep into the tiny holes and assist in the regeneration process.
You can expect even greater results with this added step, much suppler skin and quicker regeneration times.
Even in the standard procedure, the regeneration times were already quite fast, with little to no downtime. The downtime of micro-needling with PRP is once again very short, and with the added bonus, there is even less to worry about in terms of side-effects.
The procedure itself lasts no longer than 30 minutes and it’s quite painless. Even if you prefer not to feel anything, numbing cream can be applied to null the sensation even further. Following the procedure, there is no extra maintenance required, but it is advised that you take care of that particular part of the skin, by avoiding any exceptionally hot or cold temperatures. Additionally, since there are a few side-effects following the treatment, in general, treat the area with a little more care than you normally would by keeping the area clean and moist, to make sure the skin regenerates quickly and safely.
