I don’t know if it’s like this in every country, but here in the States, admitting you haven’t taken a shower is like admitting you’ve cheated on your wife. People here take their showers very seriously, or so I thought.
I remember reading an article about a year ago that said Matthew McConaughey doesn’t shower every day or use deodorant. Before I read that article, I always thought he was hot, but after reading that, my opinion changed.
Then, a few months ago, I read that some people who run into a time crunch use baby wipes for a little “extra freshness” instead of taking a shower. In addition to that, there is a person that I know pretty well (I won’t mention her name) who I’ve noticed has a sharp odor. I recently found out that she doesn’t shower every day, which obviously explains the scent. I can barely give her a hug. It grosses me out.
A few days ago, The New York Times ran a story about how we don’t really shower as often as everyone thinks we do. There are some men in the article who explain that dating can be tough when you choose to smell natural. Well, DUH! For me personally, I can’t even imagine not wearing deodorant for a day; however, apparently the new trend is to smell like “yourself.” I get it that it’s possible that “deep cleaning” ourselves in the shower every day could just be another Americanized habit that is dying; however, I can’t get over gagging when I think about not showering regularly. What do you think about this? Are you surprised by this information? Hmm…
