I remember back in the days when scanners and printers were only used for documents. That was a loooong time ago. Combined with new technology, today scanners and printers can do some stuff that would blow your mind. Just the fact that we can create a wearable bikini and edible food from 3D printers is nuts to me.
The brilliant minds over at Scandybars have come up with their own creative use for a high-resolution scanner, and it looks very tasty to me. First they use a hobby knife to slice candy bars in half. According to their blog, if the candy is really gooey, they use fishing line or a high e guitar string. Then, they scan each candy bar at high resolution (300+ dots per sq inch) to get this detailed look.
Okay, I have some questions about this… What do you do you with the candy bars after you’ve photographed them? How do you get such a wide variety of chocolate that can only be found in certain countries around the world? Do people send it to you? Dang, what a brilliant idea. Now if I can just find a way to get our Bit Rebels readers to start sending us candy, we’ll be all set! You can view the entire collection over at Scandybars. The site Scanwiches does a similar thing by scanning sandwiches. I love it!
