We’re moving ever closer to the new year, and even though most people will see it as a fresh start, there are still many who dread that they will bring things like unemployment with them into the new year. It’s anything but inspiring to have that hanging over you, and in today’s technology infused society, you have to be able to show almost extraordinary talent in order to get a well paying job. Even getting recruiters to notice you is getting harder and harder, especially when you’re trying to grab the attention of an online recruiter. But there are ways to do it, and you should never give up hope. Creativity is key here, and the more you are able to bring to the table, the better your chances are of scoring a job.
This is not going to be your average job hunting post which constantly tells you how important it is to have a good CV or resume, and where to post it. Nah, most people already know all that. I figured it’s time for something new, something that will bring all that inspiration back and potentially increase your chances of actually being recruited.
As I sat and thought about it, I figured there had to be a way to reverse engineer the strategies of an online recruiter and use that information to our advantage. That’s when I started looking for what recruiters are really looking for and where. I ended up finding an infographic called The Social Recruiting Survey: How Do You Do It? presented by Social Talent.
The infographic is a compilation of responses from 128 online recruiters and should give us a great foundation to reverse engineer the strategies they use to find people to recruit. Some people think job boards are a thing of the past, but that could not be farther from the truth. As many as 83% of the online recruiters asked still use job boards to advertise vacancies. This is useful information for us which we can certainly use. Put that together with the fact that when asked, 99% said they are mainly recruiting people from LinkedIn. These two answers have supplied us with vital information about where we need to be seen if we want to be recruited. Simply create a profile on LinkedIn and make it creatively impressive, and also make sure you stay active on job boards (whether it is by commenting or just browsing doesn’t matter). Just make sure when you find a discussion you like that you engage and let recruiters know you are there and eager to show them how skilled you are within your field.
By reverse engineering facts and statistics, there is no limit to what you can achieve. The fact that 99% of the online recruiters said they have had success recruiting people from LinkedIn should be inspiration for anyone looking for a job. As with everything these days, if you’re proactive with what you are doing, there is no way you can not succeed. Job hunting is one thing, getting seen by recruiters and being recruited is another. Don’t confuse the two because they are not the same. Getting recruited is all about being seen.
