Why do people love to decorate cars with Sharpies? Is it because it creates graffiti-like art? Is it because it’s cheap? I don’t know, but I like it. If I had an old white car, a steady hand, and any artistic talent, I would try it myself. I remember reading about a guy years ago who decorated his Lamborghini with a Sharpie. Two years ago I wrote about another guy who spent 22 days and $100 on Sharpies to decorate his Sharpie Art 1992 Mazda Miata. And here we go again…
This time, the victim of the Sharpie attack is a 1986 Volkswagen van. Imgur user Nabo put a simple cardboard sign in his yard inviting his neighbors to help him decorate his van with Sharpies. As you see in the pictures below, it looked like a lot of fun. The result was some pretty creative Sharpie art.
Nabo painted the van white so they could start with a clean surface. Then, armed with eight cases of beer a whole lot of Sharpies, they went to work. The fact that none of these people were professional artists, and they were all just having fun, only adds to the charm of this newly decorated van.
Since he just put out the sign and random people showed up (the day wasn’t planned ahead of time), it turned out to be a mixture of new and old friends that nobody could have predicted. I don’t know how long they worked on it, but I bet it was a while. I’m sure everyone there will remember that day for a long time. Not only that, Nabo ended up with a Volkswagen van covered in incredible Sharpie art. What a great example of inspired creativity!
