If you love spending weekends in the mountains like I do, you know that everything tastes better when it’s cooked over a campfire. When I’m in the city, I would never choose to eat Beanee Weenees or Easy Cheese on crackers, but in the woods, suddenly that stuff is a gourmet meal, and it tastes delicious and nutritious.
As I’ve written before, since I grew up in a family that spent a lot of time outside, I’m kinda a tomboy with that stuff. I can stick a cricket on a hook, catch a trout, clean him up and have him on the campfire in no time. S’mores are a traditional part of a bon fire evening here in the States, and if you’ve never had one, I highly recommend trying it.
These days, you can buy an indoor s’mores machine like this one. They’ve gotten popular over the past few years, but in my opinion, where’s the fun in that? Hunting for just the right marshmallow stick in the forest and the gooey mess of melted chocolate are all part of the fun. REI put together this fun infographic that explains pretty much everything you’d ever want to know about s’mores. They really have broken it down to an art and science. If you’ve never made a s’more, this will definitely help you. Making s’mores is really easy! Now, about starting a campfire right after it’s rained… That’s a whole different story. :)
