The Entrepreneur’s Guide To Taking A Vacation

I’ve owned my own business for over a decade now. I love being an entrepreneur. I’ve written about it many times on Bit Rebels. At this point, I don’t think I could go back to working for someone else. I mean, I could do it, but my new boss would probably fire me immediately. I like to do things my own way and work my own schedule.

There are many advantages to working for yourself. Not only does it give us the opportunity to pursue our passion every single day, we get to make our own rules, which many times means we find unique ways to outsmart our competition. My home office may look like just an ordinary office to some people, but to me, it’s my control tower from which all creativity and originality flows. When I sit down at my desk and grab the phone or keyboard, I transform into Supergirl (with a red and blue cape), or at least I do in my own mind.

However, there are some downsides to being an entrepreneur also. I like to think of them as our challenges. For example, there is no steady paycheck or benefits, we have huge responsibilities, and we are expected to stay motivated and inspired every day even if we don’t feel like it.

One of the biggest challenges entrepreneurs face is being able to take a vacation without feeling guilty. We’ve all seen the statistics about how “getting away from it all” for a few days every now and then recharges our batteries and makes us more productive. However, for most of us, that is easier said than done. I recently took a few days off to go to Shanghai, and although the trip was amazingly worth it, I’ll admit it was really hard to disconnect.

I found this infographic created by Quickbooks Online. I thought it offered some really smart tips about how to take a vacation yet still stay sane. I hope this will help any of you who might struggle with this. I’ve also included a very interesting infographic by Credit Score which compares work hours and vacation time by country. This is all fascinating stuff to me!
