The Psychology of Sales

I am very aware that selling is a no-no on Twitter. In this article I am not going to try to sell you anything other than your own ability to sell.

Someone once told me, “You’d better learn how to sell something, because if you don’t, you’ll always position yourself to only be the person sold to. The wealthiest people in the world are either selling something right now or getting ready to.” That always stuck with me.

Selling is what I do for a living and I’d like to share with what I’ve learned about the psychology of sales over the past decade. These are tips that @allisonrebecca1 and I have taught to sales people across this country. I hope it sheds some light on the career of being in sales which many times gets such a bad name.

First of all, if you are like me, you are not a born salesperson. However, you convinced your husband to marry you, right? You convinced your girlfriend to sit through that movie, right? I believe that being in sales can come naturally, if you let it. Start paying attention to what’s happening around you and you’ll see it happening every moment of every day.

Secondly, remember that people love to buy things! Our job as a salesperson is to make that process fun and enjoyable. Learn about the DISC personality types. You can do that by reading this article: Twitter DISC Personality Types & Examples https://retwt.me/h4VQ

Be genuine, and be yourself. Paint a picture in your prospect’s mind and put them in it. Always be ethical and correct with your facts. Sell yourself! Let all the wonderful qualities of your personality shine through. If you are going to be successful in sales, you must have a positive mindset. Expect your prospect to say yes. Confidence is magnetic and so attractive! Confidence combined with humility is the best combination. Find a way to make their buying experience pleasurable and you’ll be very successful.

Understanding the No’s…

Don’t take it personally! No’s are part of the business which is why the Yes’s feel so good. Trust me, you will get paid for all the no’s that you get! Try to learn how to control your emotions when it comes to this. Learn from the no’s. It will empower you. In the darkest of skies, the stars shine brighter! Make professionalism the basis for your business. Make lasting impressions. Ask for the sale without being pushy.

Last but not least, if you don’t remember anything else from this post, remember that people will let you down, but numbers never will. I always make it a point to get 50 new leads per week minimum. I believe that is the reason why I’ve been successful. If you have enough numbers, then the no’s don’t hurt so badly. I can’t stress how important this is. If you can find a way to increase your number of leads, you’ll be successful, no matter what. It is simply the law of numbers.

If you are in sales and have some additional tips, please leave them in a comment below so we can all learn from each other!
