Think Outside The Box For Your Career

A career is a huge decision. You maybe be already a few years into a career, and you’ve realized that it’s not for you. You’re hoping it’s not too late to try something better. You may be fresh out of high school, trying to decide what to do with the rest of your life. While ultimately career satisfaction has a lot to do with the attitude you bring to work every day, it’s also important to make sure you don’t get stuck in a job you hate.

Choosing The Best Career For You

While there might be the age-old pressure to become a doctor or a lawyer, you’re not sure a more traditional career is right for you. You’ve contemplated business, but sales, accounting, recruiting, and the rest aren’t really your speed. You don’t know how much you’d enjoy sitting at the same desk every day. You’ve considered other more traditional careers as well, but you just feel stuck. You may already be in a more traditional career, and you want to get out of it. If you’re having trouble deciding what you want to do for a living, a few out-of-the-box career ideas might be right for you.

If you like to create, and a career in art, design, writing, voice-overs, etc., sounds appealing to you, you might want to pursue training at a conservatory or apprenticeship. Careers in the arts are by nature not high salary (usually) and the majority of artists who do find work are freelancers. College debt and an artist’s career are not a happy couple. While that college degree might help you get some jobs, more companies are looking for experience and skill, both of which you can acquire through alternative forms of training. There are plenty of resources online, like free writing lectures and best website designs for graphic design inspiration.

Another great route away from traditional careers is blue collar degrees. The idea that a trade job is beneath someone, is a social stigma and has nothing to do with the intelligence required or the salary achieved. Depending on the career choice, some blue-collar professionals make six figures a year. Automotive and diesel technicians are always in demand, and they make a great salary. Once you factor in how much less debt you’ll have to pay off, blue collar jobs look a lot less like the “lesser” career, and a lot more like the smarter one.

Your career doesn’t have to look like anyone else’s, and if you’re in the market for a career change, or you’re looking for the best career to begin with, try thinking outside the box.
