What were you doing when you were 16 years old? I was working at Wendy’s, talking to my girlfriends about boys, and experimenting with blue eyeshadow for the first time.
Guess what this teenager just did? Jessica Watson, a 16 year old from Australia, sailed around the world, by herself, in her pink sailboat. Ten days ago she set a record for being the youngest person to ever sail non-stop and unassisted around the world.
She began her journey in October of 2009, and according to Amusing Planet, “Over a period of 210 days she covered 23,000 nautical miles, faced 40-foot waves and 7 knockdowns.” Jessica told the LA Times that she wanted to challenge herself and inspire people. Well, you’ve inspired me! I love her pink boat. She blogged throughout her journey, which you can read about here. You can also find her on Twitter at @watsonjessica.
