If you have a blog or if you’ve just started out writing, you know that there are a lot of rules you have to learn in order to master the English language. Today’s blogs usually use a language based on slang and made up words in order to stand out. It’s one way to avoid having to properly write English which people don’t get annoyed about when trying to take in what you want to share. Most popular websites and news outlets use a proofreader to correct any mistakes that might have sneaked their way into the text, and so do we. However, there is no such thing as a 100% proofed news outlet, and mistakes continuously find their way into articles and text, no matter how much you think you can eliminate them.
It’s not so hard to pick up the correct way of writing things, but it is a long process since you have to practice it over and over again in order for it to become a habit. I couldn’t tell you how many times I have seen trolls on articles mentioning how something isn’t spelled, written or expressed correctly only to find that the trolls themselves made even greater mistakes in their attempts to put someone in their place. So, in my ongoing quest to learn, I thought I would share a little guide that I found while looking to soak in yet another pint of knowledge.
It’s an infographic that will guide you through the different ways you can use quotation marks and punctuation in your writing, and how you can do it the right way. It was created by Grammar, and it is a fairly simple yet useful guide. You can either print it out and put it on your wall, or just bookmark it and come back to it later to check to see if what you are doing is wrong or right. We have the honor of working with one of the best proofreaders around, so picking up things on the fly is quite easy. However, it’s the learning process that is the heavy lifting, and it is sometimes anything but easy to get the information to stick in your brain if you are not utilizing it very much. So, practice and use your knowledge on a regular basis, and you will find that your brain will function like a sponge.
