Behold The World’s Largest Gingerbread Village Too Beautiful To Eat

We are rapidly approaching Christmas, and with it come a lot of chores. One being to finish up that beautiful gingerbread house that you know you will get to destroy and eat once Christmas is over. But for some people putting together a gingerbread house is a whole lot different from the way you and I would do it. Some people go above and beyond and actually put together the world’s largest gingerbread village ever known to man.

It contains 152 houses and 65 trees and weighs a whopping 1.5 tons. This gingerbread village is massive in every way and definitely too beautiful to destroy and eat. I have a nagging suspicion that once Christmas is over, an armada of kids will have the pleasure of using whatever they can to make this gingerbread village crumble and unavoidably seize to exist. It is a shame, but it is after all the lifecycle of most Christmas traditions.

This record-setting gingerbread village was put together by New York chef Jon Lovitch and incorporates 500 pounds of gingerbread, 400 pounds of candy and 2,240 pounds of icing. If that doesn’t give you an adrenaline and a sugar high, I honestly don’t think anything will. The price of this beautiful village was not too bad when you think about the size, the amazing creativity and of course the ingredients incorporated into it. When finished the price tag amounted to around a couple of thousand dollars, but the money and effort put into it was not in vain as it is now entered into the Guinness Book of World Records, something that any chef would be quite proud of having achieved.

But, before you set out to top this gingerbread village build I would suggest building a couple of houses to start with. It is with experience that you will learn how to build things that last and will not crumble as soon as you add more details to them. I have to agree with what Conner Flynn over at Technabob said about the sheer amount of ingredients used, “That’s enough to give everyone who even looks at it a stomach ache.”
