“You Want Something? Go Get it. Period.” I’ll never forget that line from Will Smith in the movie The Pursuit of Happyness. I didn’t think the movie itself was that great, but wow, that quote really stuck with me.
The end of the year is always such an introspective time for us all. I know it shows in the articles I’ve written lately. Like many people, I always make time to reflect on the past year and write down my goals for the coming year. I’m not a big fan of New Year’s resolutions, but it just makes sense to me, at the end of the year, to do a temperature check to see how things are progressing in life. It’s a time to learn from the past and then let go of it for good.
If I may, I would like to share some personal thoughts I’ve had today about the new year. Please contribute by including your own comments below. 2011 is going to be a fantastic year for all of us!
Inspiration is truly everywhere. I will recognize that and not be controlled by fear or doubt in 2010. I want to encourage you to do the same. Fears and doubts can permanently squash our dreams. I will not allow people who do not support me and my dreams to worm their way into my life. We’ve all heard the saying that we are like the five people we are in contact with most. I want those five people to be supportive of my dreams and I want to be just as supportive of them. I want us to encourage each other. There is no room for negative people in that equation.
Once I’ve made progress towards a new goal, I will not look back. I know that if we leave the door behind us cracked even a little bit, we might be tempted to turn around and go back. I will be a doer, not just a thinker, and take action whenever I can. I know that the possibilities are endless. I also know that it is never too late in life to achieve anything. This touching NY Times article reminded me of that http://query.nytimes.com.
But most importantly, I will keep in mind what this fabulous video below says, “Remember, when you were a kid, when everything was within your reach, and then say to yourself quietly, but with determination, it still is.”
Happy New Year everyone! Let’s make it the best year of our lives!
