Now this is the kind of economic system I could totally get down with – A Twitter based system where we pay for things by tweeting and using certain hashtags instead of actually having to pay with money. Imagine if we could get shoes, handbags and even cars by doing that. Yup, that is how I imagine Utopia. The only thing we’d have to worry about is whether or not our iPhones were fully charged, and if we had the latest version of Tweetdeck installed. We could just go around tweeting to buy everything we want…
Unfortunately, I’m back to reality and this is not quite how the world is set up. Bummer. At least the people in South Africa are getting a taste of this, literally.
There is a vending machine there stocked with BOS Iced Tea. Instead of putting money in the vending machine, people can pull out their smartphones and send a tweet with the designated hashtag, and they are rewarded with a super cool robot voice, a flashing sign with their username, and best of all, the iced tea they are standing there waiting for. You can follow @BOSMachine to see all the people who have tweeted for tea. That’s what I’m talking about! All I have to do now is figure out how to get a machine like this in Atlanta. Oh, and I’d want to stock it with Caramel Macchiatos, cupcakes, Diet Dr. Pepper, chocolate and hot chicken wings (extra crispy). Hmm…I wonder if gadgets and other devices would fit in there too.
