A Twitter Milestone: The 10,000,000,000 Tweet!

Soon Twitter will reach a major milestone in its history and the 10,000,000,000th tweet will be sent! I think this is reason enough for a big Twitter celebration! Twitter is truly my second family, so this milestone has made me stop and reflect about what Twitter means to me.

Ten billion tweets is a lot of tweets! At the time I’m writing this, we are at tweet number 9,907,234,387. How many tweets are sent per minute? You can go to https://www.tweespeed.com to see that number in real time. Right now, there are 46,742 tweets being sent per minute.

If you want to know what number your tweet is, just go to your profile page on the web view of Twitter and click on the time of your last tweet. Look up in your browser at the URL, the number will be listed there.

I wonder who will send the 10,000,000,000th tweet! It is exciting to me to see so many people enjoying Twitter. It truly makes me smile. So much has happened in the world and is documented in those 10 billion tweets. There is a lot of history, celebrations, embarrassing moments, breaking news, valuable links, music and good times with friends inside those tweets.

I began to wonder if back in the beginning @Jack ever thought that many tweets would be sent. I mentioned it to him tonight and this brilliant man simply had one word to say, “Amazing!” That is my sentiment exactly. It truly is amazing. It’s a great time in history to be on Twitter and I have never been so proud to be part of the magic.
