Back To Basics: Twitter Cheat Sheet

I think it’s time to get back to basics. You know, back to the core of things. I especially mean Twitter, and how it works. I think most social media infographic designers forget that there are a lot of people out there who just use Twitter to update their friends and family (I would personally estimate it to be about 98% of the user base). They don’t go hardcore, and they don’t really try to optimize their time in order to be able to use Twitter as much as they possibly can during their day. There are hundreds of thousands of people who sign up for Twitter each day, or there about, and what those people need is a simple and basic introduction to Twitter.

It has been proven that Twitter has a pretty steep learning curve if you want to really get into it, but most people never get to that level at all. They simply type their 140 character tweets, send them, and then just watch what their followings send. They don’t have any aspirations to become the next king of the followers. So with this in mind, I turn to all the people who are just about to start out using Twitter (believe me, there are quite a few people out there who don’t know what Twitter is, even today).

I found a really basic and simple infographic published by lexisclick, and it only explains the very core of Twitter and what it all means. Like so many other people, I would really like FollowFriday (#FF) to become what it once was. It used to be a serious follow introduction where one person was mentioned per hashtag. What it has become is a spam contest that keeps chugging out 8-10 (if not more) follow suggestions in one single tweet. Not only does it defeat the purpose, but it’s ultimately confusing for all the new users of Twitter who don’t even know what FollowFriday is really all about. I say, let’s go back to the basics. Let’s do things the way they are supposed to be done when it comes to sharing the awesomeness called our followers. It’s about time, don’t you agree?
