Best Time To Post On Twitter & Facebook [Infographic]

If you have been on Twitter for a long time, you know that Twitter, just like any other social networking service, has an activity cycle. There are times when the service is buzzing with posts and updates and other times when it seems like a ghost town. This is quite normal since the people who use these social networks the most also need to sleep. For example, when it’s nighttime in the U.S., there is a huge decrease in activity across the board.

In order to get the best results out of your content sharing and updates, especially if you’re a company or a brand, it’s important to know exactly when the spikes in traffic occur. We here at Bit Rebels have studied this phenomenon for over two years now, and we pretty much adjust our own activity to that of Facebook and Twitter to maximize the interaction between us and our readers.

But how exactly do you go about figuring out what times are the best to post on either Facebook or Twitter? Is there even a way to do it without having to pull your own data for a couple of years? Well, of course there is. As a matter of fact, I have found an infographic called When Should You Post This? that tells you all about it. It’s put together by a company named Raka who used bit.ly as their source of data. It clearly outlines the best times when you should post your most urgent content to gain as much traction as possible.

When it comes to Facebook it’s a little different. While the best time to connect and post content on Twitter is between 1:00pm and 3:00pm EST, you’d do best in starting to post content after 11:00am since traffic starts ramping up around 9:00am and dies down after 4:00pm. Facebook has a larger window to get traction than Twitter does, which has made Facebook the main source of traffic for a couple of years now.

Of course, it also depends a lot on the number of fans and friends you have. The infographic mentions that if you have important news to share, you should definitely not post it on Twitter after 8:00pm any day and absolutely not after 3:00pm on Fridays. Of course, all of these times mentioned are constantly changing slightly due to daylight saving time and whatnot. A good thing is to always keep a close eye on things to see how they develop.

If you find that you have a better “reach” during other hours than what are mentioned in this infographic, it’s a good idea to write them down since that could mean that you have followers with greater influence that are online during those particular hours. Of course, there are also deviants that pollute the data, but with some experience you’ll learn how to take those out of your data set and more clearly see when your chances are to reach as many people as possible.

All times listed are United States EST.
