When @pedeveloper first told me about this digital social networking business card, I instantly knew I had to share it with you. This is brilliant and I can’t wait for it to replace old fashioned, paper, boring and easy-to-lose business cards everywhere. This cute little device, called a Poken, merges online and offline data. It was developed to maximize the use of social networking sites such as Facebook and Twitter.
According to Dave Coates, “It’s an electronic business card which comes in two main hardware types: Poken Spark and Poken Pulse. Poken Spark is the playful version that can store up to 64 contacts and the Poken Pulse is the more corporate/business-look Poken which also has a storage capacity of 2GB.”
How do you connect to others with your Poken? I think https://www.viralavatar.com puts it best when they say to “Simply pull out your Poken and ‘high five’ it with your new best friend’s. Clever RF technology then zaps the info between the devices, so next time you log on to your favorite site, your profiles are linked. Genius!” It functions as a business card sender and receiver.
Poken won the Best European/Real World Gadget (EMEA) award at the TechCrunch Europe Awards in 2009. @pedeveloper adds, “My goal for Poken is that it replaces business cards as the main source of sharing contact information. I do believe that business cards have a place, but everything is becoming digital. That includes business cards.”
