Email Marketing Practices Explained [Infographic]

I probably wouldn’t be too out of line when I say everyone hates spam. It’s the one thing that makes email such an annoyance to use. Everything else that has to do with email is actually pretty good. I mean, you have the ability to send someone your thoughts instantly and it will sit patiently waiting until the receiver opens it and reads it. It was a huge revolution when it was introduced to the world, but ever since then, it has been going downhill. And all of that is thanks to email spam. What’s even more sad is that some people are stepping away from using email marketing all together just because email spam has such a bad reputation. The fact is, email marketing is not a bad thing. It’s only bad if you misuse it and spam people things they don’t want to receive.

If you use email marketing the right way, you can gain a whole new client base and keep customers coming back to your website over and over again. There are some practices that will make email marketing one of the best promotion platforms out there. But there are a few things that you need to know in order to make it all legit and not something people frown upon when they receive it.

One of those things is to make an unsubscribe option available in your email so that if they have grown tired of receiving your emails, they can easily stop them from coming. It might sound weird that the first thing I bring up when I talk about email marketing is to be sure to allow people to unsubscribe, but it actually has a reverse effect. When people see that they have the option to unsubscribe, they will feel more at ease about receiving your offers, updates or news. It actually makes them feel like they are in control, and that you are not some spam happy money greedy email marketer.

It takes a whole lot of explaining to get it all right, so what I have done is to find a brilliant email marketing infographic created by Purple, Rock, Scissors called What Is Email Marketing. It goes through everything from the number of worldwide email users to the intricate expectations that running a well-oiled email marketing campaign includes. It’s all about how you profile yourself. If you are too greedy, you will quickly find that your subscribers will start to unsubscribe quicker then you are able to hit that send button. If you are doing it well, meaning you are taking their perspective into consideration before you start lurking around for money, you will start seeing some great numbers when it comes to invested time versus revenue gain.

The impact of email marketing can be huge if you do it the right way. And with a user base of 1.4 billion people, you will quickly start to understand that the market is huge. Your potential success increases a lot with a good layout and a professional approach to the whole endeavor, so make sure you continuously watch and analyze the result of each and every email campaign in order to make the proper adjustments if you start seeing greater numbers in unsubscribed users. Don’t write off email marketing just because of email spam, those two things are not the same if you do it right.
