So many people are quick to bag on Twitter these days. They go on and on about how it’s not profitable, how the number of new users is dropping, and how investors are pouring millions of dollars into a social media site that is on the decline. I’m not so quick to pass judgment and count Twitter out yet. Maybe that is because I have so many fond memories that include Twitter. This brief history of Twitter from Twttr to IPO brings back so many of them.
There was a time back in early 2009 when my entire life was intertwined into Twitter. It was like that for the core group of people who were on the site at that time, and if you were one of them, you know exactly what I mean. Back then, there was more personal engagement than links, real friendships and strong bonds were made everyday, and there was very little spam.
I am not counting Twitter out any time soon, and I have no plans to leave the site. I have high hopes about the site’s success. Besides, no matter what anyone says, it’s a fact that this will be the largest technology IPO since Facebook’s in 2012. That is an achievement Twitter should be very proud of, and one that marks another place in the history of Twitter that we’ll all remember.
This infographic called A History Of Twitter From Twttr To IPO (by Mashable) is the newest timeline that details Twitter’s history from the beginning until now. Looking at this is like taking a walk down memory lane. What are your fondest memories of Twitter? It will be interesting to watch how the IPO affects the success of the site, and how it will all play out in the end. I hope Twitter remains solid and continues growing for many more years to come.
