How To Market Your Music Video On Social Media

Building a music empire in the 21st century has never been more achievable. As a musician, you want to focus on your craft, but you also need to get your music to the ears of your fans.

This is where the reach of social media comes in. Social media is an amazing marketing tool that’s free and at your fingertips, getting your music video in front of millions of potential fans with just a few clicks.

It’s not quite as simple as just sharing a video, however. Marketing your next hit video starts with creating a brand, building some buzz, and then following up with your engaged fans.

Start By Building Your Brand

To create buzz, you need to have fans. To have fans, you need to have a brand, a name, or something for fans to follow. When building your brand on social media, be sure to:

  • Be consistent: Use the same images, logo, etc. across all social media platforms
  • Be professional: Get professional photographs taken.
  • Be meticulous: Your clothing, vibe, jewelry, etc. are all part of your “look” and your brand.

All of these little details add up to an image and identity that as an artist you’ll have to cultivate to entice viewers. Your fans should be able to look at a piece of content and immediately know that you created it.

Develop Your Content

Making amazing music is only one part of a successful musical career. Besides a killer music video, there are other types of video content you can make and release to grow your fan base and build your brand.

Documentary (Behind The Scenes)

You can build a bigger and more loyal fan base by showing them a sneak peek behind the scenes. People love reality TV and would love to watch what goes into your music-making process (and all the snafus along the way).

Having an additional camera or team following you throughout the creative process is an easy way to double your content and giving your fans more of what they want.

Educational (Teaching Skills)

People love learning from their idols and making helpful educational videos is a great way to help build fan loyalty. Whether it’s a special technique, a weird talent you have, or a skill that you’re proud of, educating your followers with some short videos is a great way to grow your fan base.

Since making music is your full-time job, you may not want to record music for these other types of videos. In this case, save time and money by using royalty-free music in the background, finding a sound that works with yours.

Making free, educational videos is an awesome way to pay it forward with your fans. Chances are, they’ll repay you by sharing and resharing every video you ever post.

Actual Music Videos (Entertainment)

This is the best part and what you’ve worked for. Making your music gives life to your passion and provides entertainment to your fans. And putting it to fun or edgy choreography is just the icing on the cake.

Marketing Your Music Video

Next, just share your completed video on all platforms! Just kidding. That is social media marketing for amateurs. There’s actually a simple formula for getting your music video out there and creating the most excitement around every aspect of your release.

Rather than just putting the finished video out there, make sure to tease your audience a bit. Hollywood does this all the time with teaser trailers way ahead of their scheduled release dates.

  • Create a buzz with your fans
  • Tease a date
  • Release a short clip of the full video (teaser video)
  • Release the full video
  • Get fan feedback
  • Reshare, Rinse, and Repeat

Make Use Of Social Media Ad Programs

It’s easy to get lost in all the noise, making it hard to stand out in the crowd. Having the best track in the world means nothing if it never gets in front of your audience.

Using targeted social media ads means you can find that audience that much quicker. Viewers with certain musical tastes connected to your brand can be converted into fans by getting your targeted ads in front of their eyes (and ears).

Stay True To The Music

As you grow, share, and build your music empire, make sure to be authentic in your communications, connect with your fans as much as possible, and stay true to your passion throughout the journey.
