Should You Accept That Facebook Friend Request? [Flowchart]

An occurrence that everyone is familiar with on Facebook is the accumulation of friends. Facebook released the subscribe feature in order for people to be able to keep two different feeds or categories of people. There is one for their real friends, and one for people who just want to lock in and get an update about the person they are subscribed to. It’s something that a lot of users have asked for for a long time. Nowadays you can separate people you know from the ones who just want to know what you are up to. However, how do you determine who is a friend or not? Of course, that is entirely up to your own preferences, but how do you decide? Should you accept that friend request you just received or not? If you don’t know, you can consult this friend request flowchart.

I admit that it can sometimes be hard to know whether you should accept a friend request or not. After all, you don’t want to hurt people’s feelings, but at the same time, you can’t know everyone, can you? However, networking is all about getting to know new people, so how do you do that on Facebook if you don’t accept new friend requests?

If you want to network on Facebook, what you could do is send a few private messages back and forth in order to get to know this new person. That way, you can decide whether it is a worthy addition to your already growing group of friends. However, having subscribers of course doesn’t mean that you won’t network with them. It’s quite the opposite. I have many times found that I communicate more with my subscribers than I do with my friends (sorry friends). My Facebook profile is actually filled with geeky thoughts, content and shares that I mostly dedicate to my subscribers.

So what are the reasons why you should accept that Facebook friend request? Have a look at this quite hilarious flowchart (infographic) presented by CollegeHumor. Networking doesn’t have to be so serious all the time. If you don’t know whether you should accept that new friend request that you just got, again, consult this flowchart and you will have your answer pointed out to you.

Never before has choosing your real friends been so easy, right? Joking aside, you should of course apply your own personal filters when choosing your friends on Facebook. After all, it’s the most popular social media networking service on the planet, and you are bound to get a few odd friend requests every once in a while. Choose wisely, and build your network from the ground up with people who you feel will contribute to your personal development. Choose people who actually care that you are one of their friends, and you will probably do just fine.
