How To Smile Naturally For Photos & End The Duck Face Epidemic

There’s no question that the infamous duck face is an epidemic on social media sites everywhere. It’s got to be one of the most unattractive poses any girl can do, yet almost like a disease or an addition, many people sprint into ‘automatic duck face mode’ once someone whips out their smartphone camera. In an effort to end the duck face syndrome that so many girls seem to have, I thought I would post an article about how to smile naturally in photos.

Just for fun, I wanted to research the origin of duck face. I set out to find the earliest duck face photo I could find. I figured it would be something posted on the original Myspace from years ago. As it turns out, duck face (and it’s ugly brother called ‘fish lips’) have been around for hundreds of years. I found a post called The Duck Face Through History that shows evidence of it from all the way back in the 1500s. I don’t know the origin of the actual name though, and I have to say, it’s an insult to a duck.

Thank goodness Jeff Wysaski of Pleated-Jeans made this video to teach people how to smile naturally in photographs. There are some good tips in here, and this could help anyone get over their duck face addiction. The first step is, don’t say cheese. Instead, say a word that ends in an “uh” sound. By not saying cheese, you won’t look unnatural, and by saying a word that ends in an “uh” sound, you will resist the urge to suck in and duck face.

You can get the rest of the tips by watching this video. Maybe we can all start looking a little more natural in our photos and end duck face forever, or maybe that’s just wishful thinking…
