When you have a blog, a website, or when you’re creating a new online project, your aim is always to make it go viral. No matter if it is a service, product or just something creative, the best way to get it out there is to have it “trend” and go viral. It’s easier said than done though, but with the right tools and mindset, you can do it. There are a handful of people out there who with their sheer follower count and online influence can make pretty much anything go viral. Of course, it has everything to do with the content itself, but with a little bit of a push, it wouldn’t be too hard for these people to whip up some major traffic to whatever they share and talk about. It’s just how it all goes.
How exactly do you go about making something go viral if you don’t have the insane pull and massive following that these people have? There are of course steps you can take to increase your chances of sharing something that might go viral. KISSmetrics looked into the matter and compiled the data into a pretty useful infographic, if I may say so myself. It’s called The Viral Marketing Cheat Sheet, and it takes you through the different “rules” that increase your chances ever more.
Deriving data from pretty much everything that has gone viral over the years should give us a pretty clear image of what is popular during certain time periods, and what you should focus on right now to make something go viral. Sure, it’s not always what you want to spend your energy on since what’s popular might not be your focus of interest. However, you build “class” and with that comes hard work.
Through hard work, you will be able to pull together a following that is ready to spend a couple of minutes each day to check out what you have to share. That alone is worth a lot. Why? Because word of mouth is the most cost effective promotional method there is. It’s free and the gain is far greater than any other promotional technique you can think of. But sometimes it takes a bit of money to get the initial word out there, and that is exactly why you need to work in order to not have to spend this kind of money. Nothing comes free in this world, and this is a great example of that. Work hard and put your focus towards building your following. Then while you do that, spend time memorizing this infographic, and you will have a secure and solid foundation to stand on when you are ready to get the word out there. It’s a powerful tool, and whatever you do, don’t disregard that.
