If there is one limitation when using Twitter that I can think of, it’s the fact that we can only engage with our friends and know what’s going on by reading our tweets. I’m sure someone out there has probably developed a system for the vision-impaired to tweet, but there is nothing that is mainstream which would allow all of us to read our tweets a different way.
For example, when I’m riding my bike, I usually take my iPhone with me. The only way to see what’s going on is to stop on the bike trail and read the tweets. Also, it would be nice to be able to know what’s happening on Twitter when I’m driving. Obviously I don’t tweet and drive, so all of that time I spend in the car is twitterless.
Now there is a solution to this challenge. It’s an app called Tweet Speaker, and it will read our tweets to us. In essence, it creates a live podcast of our Twitter stream. Since it’s created specifically for Twitter, it even reads “RT” as “retweet,” etc… The developer, App Cubby, says this on the website, “Featuring a beautiful user interface, speech tailored for tweets, Tweet Marker support, adjustable reading speed and Airplay, Tweet Speaker is a fun new way to experience Twitter.” This app works on all iOS devices, and it was just released in the app store two days ago. You can purchase it on iTunes for $2.99.
