2020 Is The Future Here Yet?

Although the year 2020 may not suddenly take a leap into the sci-fi future that tech enthusiasts dream of, a long list of tech predictions show that we’re at least taking long strides heading in that direction. Everything that would have previously sounded like something from an unrealistic blockbuster, such as brain microchips, self-driving cars, and robotic moon bases may just happen to wow us this year. Here are the most interesting predictions for the year 2020, and what to expect from them.

Transportation

While 2020 may not be the year we drive flying cars, it just may be the time we don’t have to drive at all. Earlier last year, Elon Musk has claimed that Tesla was already working on producing one million robotaxis, which were supposed to launch this year. Although we likely won’t see them until a couple of years from now, the company is certainly working on making it happen much sooner than we had anticipated.

However, Tesla is also not the only company working on autonomous vehicles, Aurora and G.M Cruise seem to have demos of their own, which may be unveiled later this year.

Entertainment

One industry that has lived up to our vision of a future is entertainment and casino. Just think about it, today you can use any device, anywhere, to play casino games live with other players, and a live dealer recorded real-time from a studio. Back in the day, gamblers would have had to visit a brick-and-mortar casino to test their luck, but that’s no longer the trend in 2020.

Virtual reality casinos, as well as other forms of entertainment like music festivals, can now be experienced from the comfort of your own home. This year, we expect VR to take the tech world by storm, replacing many activities that we have previously had to do in specific venues.

Space

Unsurprisingly, Japan is ahead of the game when it comes to futuristic inventions. In the past few years, the country has been planning to build a robotic Lunar Outpost. Although that hasn’t happened yet, they’re certainly processing the technicalities of their plans and have already made impressive progress with their private launch vehicles.

Microchips

You may think of a brain microchip as something straight out of a sci-fi horror film, but the scientists at Intel have a different insight. The idea is surely nothing new, but instead of being placed to control a human being’s brain, they’re being developed to control smart devices as well as nearby appliances. This may seem pointless to many, but it would likely be extremely convenient for individuals who need external devices to cope with disabilities. Unfortunately, brain microchips are still under development, but we may have access to them later this year.

This year’s predictions are still in progress, and may not be made available to the public until a few years from now. But if one thing is for sure, it’s that the future is now, and everything is just a click of a button away. Whether you’ve been dreaming of the self-driving car or the brain microchip with which you can control your smart devices, it appears that these inventions are already making their way into our everyday lives.
