Apple Car “igile” Envisioned & Now Conceptualized

It is widely known that at some point Steve Jobs wanted to build an Apple car. Nobody knows whether or not it would have happened if the late Apple founder would have had the opportunity to keep his health. You have to agree though that the thought of an Apple car is kind of tickling and intriguing. The sense of design and innovation that the Apple logo has become synonymous with of course contributes to that quite a bit. But at the same time, I keep wondering if it would have been a good idea overall. Building a car takes time, knowledge and years of research and engineering, and I doubt they would have the in-house technology to even get started on building an Apple car.

Of course, there are some people who keep attempting to put their own touch in what could have been an Apple car. After doing a quick search, I am struck with the lack of results I get for such a query. There are some parody examples of Apple car designs, but nothing in the near vicinity of detail as the one Denis Premasi conceptualized. His concept is called “igile,” and it’s a smooth lined compact car with features resembling that of the Smart car.

It’s easy to get excited about it, right? Well, after checking it in more detail, I am a little surprised by the lack of innovation. Sure, the shape and execution of the car feels fresh, but it’s not something that tickles my fancy. It’s a little bit too bulky for my own humble taste. But people’s tastes come in such a wide variety, and delving into all that would easily take up a whole other article. I think maybe if Steve Jobs would have been at the steering wheel, we would have gotten something a little bit more innovative, but at the same time, I think Apple does best when they stick to the areas where they know what they are doing. Innovation is good, when the innovators know what they are doing. The question remains though, is the igile Apple car something you would drive your royal hiney around in?
