How Does Browser Fingerprinting Work?

Using the Internet creates the illusion of anonymity. Some users think that by visiting websites and registering on them under fictitious names, they maintain their privacy. But in reality, websites can identify you even if you do not register but view at least one of their web pages.

This is done using the device fingerprint.

Identification Of Users By Device Fingerprint

Another common misconception is that it is enough to hide the user’s IP to protect their anonymity. However, device fingerprint technology is much more comprehensive and includes the IP as only one of its components. Other data that platforms collect to capture your device’s unique fingerprint includes:

  • Device brand and model;
  • Operating System and its version;
  • Browser type;
  • Language and time zone settings;
  • Screen resolution;
  • Fonts installed on your device, etc.

Thus, tracking users using a device fingerprint is easier and more reliable than using cookies. Cookies are stored on users’ devices, which means users can manipulate them, for example, delete them. At the same time, you cannot easily access the device fingerprint, since this data is stored on the server. However, some technologies will allow you to replace the device fingerprint.

Masking A Device Fingerprint Using Antidetect Browser

Antidetect browser technology is most effective at protecting user anonymity and privacy compared to other alternatives, such as a VPN or proxy server. The reason is that antidetect browsers like Octo Browser change all components of the device fingerprint.

Thus, the antidetect browser creates a completely different pattern of the device digital fingerprint and slips it to various social media and websites instead of your real one.

As a result, you get safe and anonymous Internet surfing and the ability to create a large number of accounts on different platforms without fear of blocking your IP.
