Before 2013 started, all the trend reports projected that 2013 would be the year that we incorporated technology into almost everything. If the first nine days of the year are any indication of what’s to come, those predictions were correct. You might not think embedding technology into our eating utensils would be useful, but think again because this electronic fork design does just that, and it will impress you. It’s for people who might like some help to be sure they don’t eat too much.
It’s a fact that when you eat slowly, you eat less calories because your brain has time to alert you when your stomach is full. If you are eating naturally, that usually happens after about 20 minutes.
This fork, called the HAPifork, has a sensor that determines how fast you are eating. After entering some information, the fork knows how fast (or slow) you should eat for your own personalized optimum health. Since it knows how many times you’ve lifted the fork to your mouth, it knows at what pace you are eating and approximately how much you’re eating. If you’re eating too fast (which means you’d be eating too many calories), it will start vibrating and flashing red lights to alert you.
If you are trying to maintain your weight or lose weight, this could be the perfect tool to make sure you don’t eat too much. When you connect this fork to your computer or smartphone (USB or Bluetooth), it downloads the info to the corresponding app to help you monitor all kinds of stats about your health. Now there is no excuse to eat too much. This electronic fork was just introduced at CES and is not available quite yet. You’ll see it soon on Kickstarter though. It’s expected to be priced at about $99. I hope it’s a huge success!
