The Future Of Artificial Intelligence And What The Predictions Are

The development and application of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) have made enormous strides in recent decades since the concept was first coined in 1950, and research was undertaken to unlock its potential. Its integration into the IT web-work, the Telecommunications industry and specifically its adoption for knowledge management (KM) and related processes have provided a wide array of benefits and mutual advantages for companies and businesses of all kinds – as well as for consumers.

The capacity of Artificial Intelligence software to analyze and extract meaning from human language through text data by using cognitive processes that are structured to mimic the neurological circuitry of the human brain is becoming the driving engine for any business or organization, as they learn to employ A.I. to the fullest.

It can help a company reduce unnecessary data, filter, and condense information by searching through all available channels on the Internet (from the social media to blogs and websites) and discover – or even anticipate – immediate solutions to a business need. [pullquote]The incredible processing speed of A.I. is also what saves a company time, reduces bureaucracy, and increases productivity by forecasting trends and anticipating fluctuations in customer demand, providing specific solutions for single or multiple business needs.[/pullquote]

A.I. experts and engineers are for these reasons highly sought after by companies that develop artificial intelligence software who wish to gain a competitive edge and learn how to integrate and deploy A.I. technology, and there are many reputable providers like Expertsystem, for example, that can be customized to a client’s specifications/needs and help them solve complex problems.

For the general public, the google search engine is a perfect example of A.I. at work, like your Siri companion on your smartphone or the automated assistants that answer your queries when you are looking for a specific product or service on the web. Robot servers at hotels already exist. Video-game developers are integrating as many A.I. apps as they can into their Virtual Reality (VR) game consoles to maximize customer/user experience and further their quest to create artificial worlds that are virtually indistinguishable from reality.

Quantum supercomputers, which can extract information from the quanta level and are thus accessing and retrieving data from – literally – another dimension, are an established reality. In fact, both Google and CERN (the European Nuclear Research Committee which is experimenting with the Hadron particle collider, the largest and most powerful particle accelerator in the world) use a D-Wave computer, provided by the first company (D-Wave Systems) that started developing quantum computers since it was founded in 1999.

Naturally, there are some risks to be addressed: such as security issues arising from the transfer of work and resources into the ‘hands’ of A.I., which still remains a ‘third party.’ Is it really worth placing your entire business in the hands of A.I., even if it can completely optimize your business? Is it worth saving everything on the Cloud in case your hard drives crash?

So this raises serious questions as to where all this may lead and what exactly is the future of artificial intelligence. We already have 3D printing machines – an impossible reality only a few years ago – with which scientists predict we will be soon able to build complex buildings and even cities.

To any business, this idea will undoubtedly bring many positive prospects. The fact that A.I. can self-repair has other added advantages which no doubt will reduce costs and even make cost-risk analyses unnecessary, and as its cognitive abilities increase it will literally be able to take over and perform all our daily tasks for us (a point which some, with good reason, may criticize); self-driving cars, smartphones, robotic maids that can cook and ‘robocops’ (which have already been developed by the military) are only a few examples that show why adoption of A.I. is so important for companies and technology in general.

One thing that is certain is that with A.I., productivity will increase to unprecedented and immeasurable levels, as innovative technologies continue to be developed and commercialized, bringing mutual and reciprocal advantages to both businesses and consumers.
