If The iPad Was Inspired By Microsoft Surface

Ever since Microsoft announced their Surface tablet recently, people have been talking about the quite clever incorporation of an actual physical keyboard. It seems one of the really great things about this new tablet is that you are not entirely limited by the touchscreen and what it has to offer, but instead you can still type away in the old-fashioned style in order to make work a lot more efficient. Even Apple fans have started to envy the approach, and there are already numerous threads on the Internet trying to convince Apple to actually implement something similar into their already highly successful iPad. It’s hard to say if this will ever happen of course, but it would certainly be an ingenious move if they actually managed to implement it Apple-style.

Even if that doesn’t happen, there is no reason why we shouldn’t be able to see what it would look like, right? Luis Pedro Fonseca, a talented industrial designer, thought it was time to see what would happen if he took some inspiration from the Microsoft Surface table and incorporated some of its features into an iPad. Through that, he gives us the opportunity to check out what a physical keyboard would actually look like on an iPad.

This concept design, called iPad Surface, is a clever contribution to a world full of great designs that we will most likely never see in real life. However, innovation is all about trying to push what is already out there and make something new from it. Since Apple has their own opinion about where user friendly interfaces and controls are headed, I highly doubt we will see a standard physical keyboard on an iPad anytime soon. It’s kind of sad, but the iPad is already very successful and people have adjusted to the touchscreen keyboard, so why switch now right? Do you think you would use the iPad more in your daily work if you had a physical keyboard at your disposal? Or would you still prefer it the way it is now?
