Build Your Own Instant Emergency Internet Kill Switch

Every once in a while, we all feel like we just want to shut it all down. Being online 24/7 is fun and all, but it can get a little bit exhausting sometimes. People are constantly able to get a hold of you, and you feel pressured to always pick up the phone or answer all those emails and direct messages you get. It can easily turn into a world of chaos if you don’t have the self-control to actually unplug. That’s when this Internet kill switch will come in handy.

We here at Bit Rebels are constantly looking for stuff that can further increase the geekiness in any home or office, and that’s why I have been on the lookout for something that I think could benefit most of us. The Internet kill switch is a little gadget that is quite useful at times, yet it’s not expensive and you can make it all on your own. I have to admit that the name of the gadget is a little bit more badass than the resulting product actually is, and you will see that in a moment.

You might remember me writing about a gadget called Don’t Snoop Me Bro Tunnel yesterday. This thing could definitely be an accessory to that little online privacy box. What the Internet kill switch box does is make sure that when you are not in front of the computer, you can easily shut off any connection to the Interwebs via a simple and pretty cool looking kill switch.

I know what some of you are thinking, why not just kill the router or modem instead? Well, this little gadget allows the Internet to stay connected to your Internet service provider even though you switch the kill switch. This means that you can just flip on the Internet again whenever you want to, and it instantly comes on again. If you were to do the same thing with the modem or the router, you would have to wait for it to connect to your Internet service provider. With this switch, you will never have to wait. It just shuts off and on.

These are the kind of gadgets that optimize our everyday annoyances, and they make our lives a whole lot easier and happy. The Internet kill switch is a creation posted on Makezine, and it is accompanied by a video showcasing the functionality of it. There is also a pretty simple tutorial on how to build your very own.
