iPhone Nano Mockup Design: Apple’s Got Balls After All

We’ve all been reading about the iPhone Nano rumors for a while. Since it’s referred to as the “cheaper version” of the iPhone, I thought the rumors were surely that, just rumors. After all, I distinctly remember Steve Jobs saying, “We don’t ship junk.”  Apple is known for being sexy, and there is nothing sexy about being smaller and cheaper.

However, now that the Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg and a few other large, reputable sources are jumping on the bandwagon, I’m starting to pay attention. Supposedly this new device will be a third smaller in size and two thirds smaller in price compared to a regular iPhone 4. This will definitely create more competition for the less expensive Android phones.

I recently switched from an Android phone to an iPhone 4 (Verizon), and although I’m choking on these words after what I’ve written in the past, in my opinion, the iPhone is far superior. Seriously, there is no contest. Just having my own personal hot spot built in is enough to make me salivate right now. True, I could have made that work on my Android, but it would have been a pain in the butt to make it happen.

I have to admit, if nothing else, Apple has balls the size of boulders to go for the jugular and 100% of the mobile phone market. Not only will the iPhone Nano supposedly be smaller and provide the MobileMe service for free (normally $99/year), it could potentially push Apple into the cloud. In addition to that, DigiTimes is reporting today that the iPhone 5 will be larger (4 inch screen), have a faster chip and pretty much upgraded everything.

According to Cult Of Mac, below is a picture of the best iPhone Nano mockup so far. It is created by designer Tyler Hojberg who writes, “Contrary to popular belief, I decided to keep the home button. I don’t believe Apple is ready to do away with the iconic home button just yet. Notice the change in antenna at the bottom, which I believe would be blocked because of the way a smaller iPhone is held, leaving only one at the top. It’s conceptual, but not too far-fetched.

Although I personally wouldn’t buy this iPhone Nano if and when it ever exists, daaaaaamn, the reasoning behind it definitely caught my attention from a marketing perspective. I wonder if it’s true. I can’t wait to see how it unfolds. A lot of people insist it’s unlikely, but think about it, it wouldn’t be the first time Apple did something people thought was dumb, and then it turned out to be brilliant. Remember back when we all thought the iPad was the dumbest name ever? #justsayin
