I think by now everyone is familiar with the Swedish furniture store IKEA, right? It is a multinational company which made its founder Ingvar Kamprad one of the top 10 wealthiest people in the world. Since then, a lot of people have tried to emulate the concept, which is that you buy the product but have to assemble it yourself. One such brilliant product is definitely the Kano computer kit, a modular computer that comes in a box which you then assemble yourself.
There have been a few computer kits made available through the years but none as sleek as this one. Kano is simple, straight forward and quite mobile as well. I know I sound as if I am trying to sell the thing, but the fact is that just by looking at how it is assembled and how it works makes me think this is a really cool mobile and modular computer.
As you might have expected by now, in order to make this an affordable yet small mobile computer kit, Team Kano has used the amazing pocket computer Raspberry Pi as its core. Everything from the Kano website to their Kickstarter campaign has a truly appealing design, and it will make you want one no matter what level of computer user you are.
The team behind the Kano computer kit is looking for funding in order to make their little creation profitable, and they are looking to raise a mere $100,000 for that to happen. With more than 23 days to go they have managed to raise a mind-boggling and insane $723,000, which of course could make this product one of the most successful ones on Kickstarter so far. That alone is pretty amazing!
From what I gather, the Kano computer kit will retail for around $99 when the campaign has successfully ended, which of course it will. Through the years here at Bit Rebels I have never seen such an appealing modular computer kit which packs quite a punch. If you want one then hop over to their Kickstarter page and pledge or reserve your own kit over at the Kano website. I know I certainly will!
