Microsoft Surface 2.0: Will It Stun Us THIS Time Around?

I remember a couple of years ago when I first saw the Microsoft Surface technology being demoed in a series of clips. I was amazed by the technology and the features it had, but I couldn’t quite see the killer use it would bring to the world. It’s one of those things that everyone should think about when they create new software or hardware. What is the killer use for it? If it doesn’t have that use then the product will pretty much become second hand junk even before it’s been commercially released. We have seen many examples of that, and it will continue throughout the future generations of ideas. Of course, there have been times when we have invented a use for a technology that wasn’t there before the product was released. The Kinect is a perfect example of that.

However, Microsoft doesn’t seem to give up on the hope that some day their Surface technology will be present in every living room or every hotel lobby. It seems like they are pushing it to new heights with their second generation interactive table, the Microsoft Surface 2.0. This time around, the table has a more intuitive way of seeing what you are doing, and it’s all in the pixels as they say.

The big question is really whether or not this geek table will amaze us even this time around. What’s the killer use for it? I must admit that even if I can feel the coolness and the geeky features itching to be tried out by my fingers, I have no real and appealing idea about what kind of use it would have in my life. Even if I stumbled over it in a lobby, I don’t think I would spend more than 10 minutes on it. The rest of the time I would just be on the iPhone, the iPad, or some other smart gadget. What do you think? Will it become the success they are so eagerly trying to make happen?
