Modern Gadgets Turned Into 100-Year-Old Relics [30 Pictures]

Gadgets are one of the primary solutions for optimization in the world. We buy them to make sure we’re plugged into the world, and we upgrade them in order to stay in the now. It’s a constant movement which is a revolution in itself. The world is getting smaller, and that is partly thanks to the increasing power of our gadgets. Modern gadgets usually fall out of service after a couple of years, but some of them become relics of a past that we keep in order to stay in touch with history.

If you are a geek, you have probably seen plenty of retro gadgets in your days. It could be anything from an old Macintosh to a first tier cell phone marketed in the early ’80s. It doesn’t really matter what it is, you will always know when you have something really old in your scope. Well, it so happens that one day our state-of-the-art gadgets will also become modern gadgets gone retro. That’s just how the world turns, and there is little we can do to change that.

A Japanese artist named Maico Akiba has come up with a way to “speed up” the aging process and literally turn our modern gadgets into 100-year-old relics from the past. The project is called 100 Years Later, and it will have you mesmerized by the power of aging. The project features modern gadgets that we so feverishly use today. They’ve all had a meeting with the soul of corrosion and become memories only recognized by their primary features and shapes.

Maico Akiba uses a sophisticated aging process in order to turn these gadgets into moldy, rusty and corroded devices that will have you think twice before you decide to use them again. The transformation takes a long time and is a display of patience as much as creativity. Next time you pull out your favorite gadget, think to yourself that one day that particular device will bite the dust to leave room for something way more advanced. It’s just how the world turns.
