Some time ago, I wrote that one of the newest trends is transparent technology. We are no longer satisfied with our touchscreen smartphones or even the smartwatches that are entering the technology landscape. We want to push it even further and make everything almost invisible. It’s a trend that many developers and manufacturers are looking into. Polytron is known for their transparent technologies, and recently they announced their new transparent USB flash stick.
Yes, you read that right, we are soon going to be able to save and download our precious files onto a transparent USB drive that will look more or less like a piece of glass with a small metal connector on the end of it. I have always enjoyed the impressive science fiction interfaces that we are oh so used to seeing in movies these days. The interesting thing is that Polytron Technologies is putting great effort into making these things as futuristic as possible by making them almost entirely out of “glass.”
You might think this is all fantasy, and that a transparent piece of technology like this isn’t possible yet, but that’s where you are wrong. It so happens that supposedly Polytron started manufacturing these at the end of February this year, which should make them available right about now. I have yet to find a place where you can buy them, but according to their website, they are definitely capable of producing stuff that is completely transparent yet still able to transmit pretty much everything through it.
Whether or not these transparent USB flash drives will become the next big thing is up to the consumer, but I have to say that it wouldn’t be too shabby to sport a couple of these. They come in sizes 8, 16 and 32 GB and have an embedded LED light to help you see when the device is correctly connected. I have no idea how the thing works, but my guess is that they have a trick up their sleeves that they are not telling us.
To me, it looks like the storage is within the metal part at the front and the transparent USB flash stick itself is just a power conductor for the LED, though I would like to reserve the right to be wrong here. I will however have to say that it’s pretty much the coolest USB drive I have seen to date.
