This is one of those rare topics that makes me feel like I’m really old fashioned. To me, it’s rude to be on our cell phones plugged into Twitter, Facebook, email, etc… while eating at a restaurant. I don’t even take phone calls while I’m dining out.
However, apparently my way of thinking is ancient. The pizza chain in the United Kingdom called “Pizza Express” has remodeled one of their restaurants (so far) to appeal to a younger demographic who likes to be plugged in 24/7, even while eating dinner in a restaurant.
They’ve installed iPod/iPhone docks right there in the booth. The obvious question here is… if they were going to install something like this, why didn’t they go all the way and accommodate more gadgets than just the iPod and iPhone? Can you tell I don’t use an iPhone? Apparently this is something they will be changing soon.
In addition, they’ve added a few other very cool features. For example, each booth is equipped with a “call button” similar to what is in an airplane. Just push the button to call your waitress. (Wow, why didn’t I think of that?) Also, they’ve come up with a fancy little design to basically sound proof each booth so you won’t have to be distracted by other diners making too much noise. I’m sure it won’t be long before other restaurants start making some of the same changes!
