Technology has definitely come a long way. It has impacted a lot of things since its inception, and this includes writing. Writing has its own fair share of advancement too. Considering that technology is now incorporated into almost anything we could think of, it’s no wonder why these two are merged together for convenience.
But how exactly did technology affect the way we’re writing?
Although manual writing is still practiced nowadays, it’s clear that technology has seeped its way into it. While it’s agreed that writing with pen and paper is still as effective and practical as ever, a lot has been upgraded lately.
Nowadays, writing a thousand-word essay is just a mere thought for many writers, especially when we don’t only have convenient computers to type the words with ease but also resources and information readily available on the internet.
Not only can we access vast archives of information, but we are also now equipped with tools and software that help us improve greatly. The presence of various spellcheckers, grammar tools, and even our keyboards for easy typing, spacing, and deleting are so rampant that we’re becoming a bit too dependent on them.
But is the introduction of technology in writing truly beneficial? It has its own pros and cons, and here are some that you should know of.
Just like any other integration, writing with the use of technology has its own advantages and disadvantages. However, these are more of a preference or a subjective decision for every writer. After all, we all have our own style of writing, and at the end of the day, it’s always what’s best for us that’s important.
Let’s start with the advantages:
Now that we can write our thoughts with the help of computers, we’re able to express our ideas smoothly. With the help of our computer, we can type in the words in a speedy manner without losing our train of thought. While some can do just fine with a pen, using a keyboard and an advanced text software or tool is definitely convenient.
The internet is so inherent and constant in our lives that we tend to find ideas there often. Unlike before, research takes a lot of time, effort, and resources; now, we can simply just type in a word and within seconds, we’re presented with all of the information we need which definitely makes writing a whole lot simpler.
If you want to improve your writing, there are many software and tools that you can freely use or download on the internet. That’s why many of us today can already write decently; writing the essays, blogs, and articles have become a breeze.
Writing manually gives us the time to ponder over how we construct our sentences. With typing, it’s easier for us to write whatever it is that comes to mind. That’s why it’s also essential to consider writing manuscripts or drafts beforehand as this makes us focus more on the value of the content rather than the number of words we’re putting in.
Technology in writing has its own flaws, but this is a matter of how we use it and not how it actually is. In the end, it’s the quality that’s important regardless of what type of writing method we are to use.
We can no longer deny how huge of a help it is, especially if we are to compare it to traditional forms of writing.
