With regard to technology, a year can feel like ten years. It progresses so fast. Back in the old days, like 5 years ago, the only way people typically charged their smarphones was by plugging a cord into the wall socket. Things have changed a lot since then, and now there are all kinds of creative ways to save electricity, help the environment and charge our smartphones and our gadgets in other ways. We’ve written about a lot of those on Bit Rebels.
Just the other day I saw a charger on design3000 that sticks to the window like a post-it note, and it charges the phone by catching the sunlight that comes in throughout the day. Today it’s all about butts though. I’m not talking about butt dialing, but butt charging. By using this new technology, you could potentially charge your phone by touching it with any hot part of your body. So, in addition to sitting on it to charge it, you could charge it by touching it with your finger, if your finger was hot enough.
According to Popsci, it’s all because of a new thermoelectric “power felt” fabric developed by the Wake Forest University’s Center for Nanotechnology and Molecular Materials. It creates an electrical charge from a change in temperature. In the future, you may be able to add this fabric to your smartphone for one dollar extra. Then when you’re not using it, you can just sit on it. That sounds a lot easier to me than finding a power cord sometimes. Just don’t be surprised if you start butt dialing your friends. I’m all for it!
