Twitter Blueprint Drawings Of Inventions Based On Followers’ Ideas

Inventions come in all size and forms. Some are successful, and some remain a blurb on a piece of paper. What they all have in common is the fact that someone dreamed them up. On February 11th, it was Thomas Edison’s 166th birthday. As we all know, Thomas Edison is a significant person in the history of mankind. To celebrate this occasion, GE (General Electric) took to Twitter to see what innovations could be derived and converted into blueprint drawings.

Let me just say to begin with that people sure have imagination. Over the course of a day, about 250 Twitter followers used the hashtag #IWantToInvent in order to interact with GE’s real-time sketcher to create 70 blueprint drawings of creative, fictional ideas. For people with “regular” jobs, it enabled an output for their imaginations that they usually wouldn’t get. It’s something that seemed to have spawned some crazy ideas to say the least.

Maybe not all of them are as plausible as GE would have wanted them to be, but they still stirred up the inspiration to dream. That is exactly what innovation is all about – dreaming. As you may know, Obama heavily supports programming as a mandatory subject in school. I would say that in conjunction with innovation, that could be huge for the American economy. Education is key to all success. The more you know, the better you are prepared to solve the problems that lie ahead of you. It’s not more complicated than that.

If you missed this event on Twitter, don’t fret. You can still have a look at some of the blueprint drawings and be inspired. As I said, they might not be the most realistic of ideas, but these blueprint drawings are still inspiring enough to make even the most hardcore realist see that there is at least serious potential in people’s imaginations. Do you have an idea for future innovation? Why not put it on a piece of paper. Heck, make a blueprint drawing out of it too, and share it with the world. You just never know what might come out of it.
