Window Socket: Plug Your Devices Into Your Window For A Solar Charge

We’ve written about so many solar powered device chargers over the years that it’s hard to remember them all. Even after all the creativity put into the idea of charging our gadgets with sunlight, it still isn’t mainstream. Of course, the best case scenario would be if we could just plug all our cords directly into the sun, but obviously that is never going to happen. It seems that idea though is what inspired this window socket concept. It’s a simple idea that lets you plug right into the sunlight.

I think what makes this window socket idea so appealing is the simplicity of it all. It’s not a battery pack, and it doesn’t require any complicated shenanigans. Instead, it’s just a little suction cup solar converter-charger that can be stuck on any window. Think of the possibilities. You could stick it on the office window, bedroom window, car window, bus window, airplane window, etc.

Then you just plug your device directly into it. The sunlight shining on the window converts to power, which goes directly into whatever you are charging. It’s like instant electricity at no cost. There is no on/off switch on this window socket. When it’s stuck on a sunny window, it just automatically starts soaking up the sunlight and converting it to electricity.

The window socket has gotten huge attention online over the past month, and the designers are working out the kinks as we speak. It currently takes 5 – 8 hours to fully charge this little guy. After that, you can take it with you (for a cloudy day when there’s no sunlight), and you’ll have a battery ready to go. Right now it only holds a charge for 10 hours. However, that is most likely going to be much improved soon. Hopefully it will be a real device on the market this year. We’ll see…
