The Philippines is considered a texting nation. We have around 2 billion text messages sent each month. I believe the reason is because the cost of sending SMS messages is still cheaper than making calls. Almost everyone has a mobile phone nowadays, and the majority of people are using the texting function to communicate and stay connected. It is so popular that 18-year-old Alex Berretta challenged the Guinness World Record holder in a contest to see who could type the fastest text messages on the iPhone. I think it’s pretty amazing considering that I used to own an iPhone before my BlackBerry, and I must say, it’s quite tricky typing a message with it.
In this contest, the person needed to text the following phrase – “The razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality, they seldom attack a human.”
Franklin Page set the old Guinness World Record for fastest text message on a touchscreen mobile phone using Swype. Mr. Page entered the above phrase in just 35.54 seconds which beat the old record by a full 5 seconds. Now, Alex Berretta, who used the Apple iPhone, beat this record by doing it in 28.81 seconds, nearly 7 whole seconds faster. This isn’t official since a judge needs to be present, but this video is unaltered and unedited. This is raw footage of the world record taken from the Flip Ultra HD camcorder. Too bad i broke my iPhone, it would have been cool to see if I could type the phrase in 27.80 or less.
