When the 3D printer first arrived on the scene, people were a little skeptical about its future. Could it really become a revolutionary device that one day would become a central part of everything we do everyday? I think the 3D printer speaks for itself nowadays. There are still leaps to be taken of course, but the technology behind it is progressing at an impressive rate. The world’s first true color 3D printer is definitely proof of that progression.
For a long time 3D printing has been limited to a single or just a few colors, but the true color 3D printer that Mcor Technologies recently announced is something that is really going to push the envelope a whole lot further. Sure, its price tag might not cater to the ordinary man’s wallet, but the features of this printer are mind-boggling and impressive.
This color 3D printer is called the Mcor Iris, and it has a precision of 5760 x 1440 x 508dpi (x, y & z axis), and it has a capability of 1 million+ colors (CYMK – 4 cartridges including black). That in itself should impress anyone who has ever worked with a 3D printer. The printer itself weighs in at a whopping 150kg (330lbs), so it’s not exactly a mobile color 3D printer.
If you’re looking to print some rather impressive objects, this printer is surely going to make your face go all smiley. The price tag is probably a little too steep for most people, and maybe that is why Mcor just rents it out. If you feel like treading inside the color era when printing your objects, you would have to spend a geeky $15,866 (USD) per year to have it delivered to your place ready to use. It’s not such a bad price if you consider the fact that it includes materials and service for the whole time you are renting it.
