So Apple has their flagship iPhone 5s, Samsung has their Galaxy S4 and the market is literally crawling with smartphones. The only problem I have with this is that it makes it a headache to find the one best suited for you. They all pretty much have the same features, and they all of course have their very own app market. So is there any smartphone that deviates from the Apple/Samsung blueprint? Yes, there is, and it’s called the YotaPhone.
The YotaPhone’s quite daring design comes from Russia and sports some rather intriguing features, especially if you are used to the ordinary smartphone designs from all the major smartphone manufacturers and developers. What makes the YotaPhone so different is that it incorporates a double sided design with two interactive screens.
The front, which sports a 4.3 inch, 720 by 1280 LCD touchscreen which looks to be pretty standard is clear and vibrant. The back of the YotaPhone however, sports something that we are not so used to. The back features a 4.3 inch, 360 by 640 EPD screen that displays 16 grayscales and has a capacitive touch zone below the EPD for gesture controls. This makes this phone a really innovative approach to utilizing the entire phone’s surface to present important information.
As if that wasn’t enough, the YotaPhone also features 2 cameras (just like the iPhone). The main one is a 13 MP AF camera with LED flash. The front camera however, is sporting a mere 1MP resolution. I shouldn’t be too rough on those specs considering the phone actually sports two 4.3 inch screens on the back and front. The innovation that must have gone into making this YotaPhone is impressive considering it is only 9.99 mm thick.
For the spec-geeks out there we can report that the YotaPhone also incorporates:
Special YotaPhone gestures and Put2Back applications for the back screen all in all, the YotaPhone is something beyond the ordinary and should definitely be put on people’s interest radar. So what will it cost? Well, once released, the YotaPhone’s estimated cost is at about 500 Euros, which is roughly $690.00.
