How Bennett Melt Built (And Moved Beyond) One Of YouTube’s Top Gaming Channels

Bennett Melt quietly turned Melt Channel into one of YouTube’s most successful gaming channels. He grew it from trickshotting clips in his mom’s basement to over a million subscribers and 145 million views.

Known for his sharp instincts, structured storytelling, and adaptability, Bennett’s breakout came in late 2019 with a viral Fortnite video, transforming his passion project into a full-time career. While the Melt Channel era is now closed, its influence on gaming content is evident, and the lessons Bennett learned continue to shape his creative journey as he builds a new chapter on YouTube.

We recently had the pleasure of speaking with Bennett about this next chapter, his mindset around building an engaged community, and why he’s focusing on authentic, passion-driven content over chasing the next viral moment—a huge thank you to Bennett for taking the time to share his insights with us.

What inspired you to start Bennett Melt, and how does it differ from your other content channels?

Bennett Melt inspired me to start creating content that I loved and had fun with. Before this channel, every video I made on YouTube was trying to think of the next viral idea that could get 10 million views and become this big spectacle.

Now, I believe it’s more important to make good, genuine, authentic content you enjoy, and to grow a fanbase that will genuinely resonate with you and your videos. That’s how you build an authentic audience.

I just started the channel, and it’s already the most freeing feeling in the world. I’m recording videos I think would be fun, editing them how I want, making each one feel like an art project, and then uploading them. Since I’m proud of every video, I don’t care how it performs because I’m putting out something I love, and I hope the people watching can feel that through the screen.

I feel like YouTube over the past five years has turned into a business, with everyone trying to be the biggest and the best, and it’s moved away from passion and making videos you love. There aren’t really many “YouTubers” anymore. I want to bring that back and just make genuine content for people who want to enjoy it.

How did you approach content creation for Bennett Melt to achieve nearly 200,000 subscribers with just three videos?

As I mentioned, I’m making content I genuinely love and enjoy. I still package the videos in a way that I think people will want to click on. Still, honestly, the goal is to reach a point where I can upload absolutely anything with any title and thumbnail and it will still get at least a million views because I’ve earned that trust with my audience to watch whatever I post, simply because I uploaded it.

What do you think made your first video on the channel reach over 1 million views?

I think the idea itself had enough potential to reach over a million views, and I’m also really proud of the content. It was just me having fun, making food, and editing in a delighted style. I think it’s different from most content on YouTube, which helped it stand out.

Have you noticed any differences in audience or engagement compared to your other channels?

Yeah, the audience on this channel is so engaging and amazing—I love it. I can tell I’m starting to build a genuine fanbase, which is the coolest thing. For example, when I upload a new video, within the first couple of hours and 30,000 views, I’ll already have around 1,000 comments.

To compare that to my old Fortnite channel, I’d get 1,000 comments for a million views. It shows how different and engaged this audience is, making it much more fun and exciting.

What’s your vision for Bennett Melt moving forward? Any exciting projects or ideas you’re planning?

Not really. I aim to keep uploading authentic content that I genuinely enjoy making. I just want to be myself, enjoy the process, and reignite that passion for making YouTube videos again. I don’t want to make things too algorithm-focused; I just want to have fun and enjoy the journey.

How do you manage creating content for multiple channels while keeping your unique style consistent?

I don’t. Currently, the only content I create and focus on is for the Bennett Melt channel. That has made it easier for me to give it my all and stick to a somewhat consistent schedule.
