We can’t deny these last months have been nothing like we’ve ever seen before. Chances are, because of the many lockdowns, many people didn’t set a foot in a real shop in weeks. That’s why many online businesses have seen major growth – growth you might have seen too. If you want to boost this another notch, we have some tips for you.
In an ideal world, every person that visits your website also buys something. In reality, this is not the case and there are so many reasons why someone decides not to buy something. Some might be reasons that have nothing to do with your business, such as the fact that someone’s just browsing around. But then there are other reasons that do have something to do with your business or your website. For example: if someone notices their favorite way to pay isn’t one of the possibilities, they might leave the payment process halfway through. Or if you’ve been unclear about the shipping costs, so your customer is surprised, they might also back out.
Check Analytics in which step of your payment process your potential customers leave and try to check what has that effect. Is there something you can do about it? Then we recommend you to A/B test it first. If you for instance have a very lengthy check-out process, you can test dropping a few steps and see if this impacts your conversion rate.
Most postal services have big delays because daily they have to distribute more packages than they ever did before. A good alternative for that is delivering your packages yourself in the area you’re located. Rent a big van – or if it’s cheaper a bus for e.g. 9 people (Dutch: 9 persoons bus huren) and stuff it full with packages and deliver them yourself.
You can even use offline marketing to promote this service in your area. Print some posters and hang them up around places people walk by. Having easy, fast delivery might prompt them to choose your webshop! If you do this for a longer period of time, it might be handy to discuss a good price with your local car rental company. Google car rental + the city you live in and see which companies have good reviews in your area. If you live in the Dutch city of Almere, for example, ‘auto huren Almere’ should help you out.
If you have some extra time on your hands, we encourage you to follow a Google Analytics or Facebook Ads course. Chances are you’re spending way too much money on your ads! You don’t have to pay the big bucks for these courses, Google for instance has its own Academy where you can earn your Google Analytics certificates.
Good luck with growing your business during this strange time.
