What do you have in your head right now? I need one more cup of coffee before I can tell you what’s in mine. As odd as this is going to sound, this is a very interesting set of brains made out of edible foods and other materials. I’m sure there is probably some sort of social message that we’re supposed to get from these, but I’m not quite sure what it is.
Sara Asnaghi, a photographer, sculptor and animator from Milan, began her What Have You Got In Your Head? series of brains back in 2006. She updated it with series 2 in 2010, and then she updated it again with a Dutch series (where she used traditional Dutch foods) in 2012.
Over the years, Sarah has used all kinds of foods to mold her beloved brains including candy sprinkles, rice, breadcrumbs, cheese, pasta, coffee, salt, birdseed, barley, hay, sugar (just to name a few) and occasionally non-edible things like paper, plaster and clay which she then paints. I wonder how much each one of these sculptures weighs. The average human brain weighs 3lbs, and between 77% and 78% of it is made up of water. You gotta love useless trivia. My only question is, will I instantly get smarter if I eat this brain food? You can view more of this collection and see Sara’s other work on Behance.
