When you have your photograph taken, do you have a ‘good’ side? I have never particularly enjoyed having my photograph taken, and as I get older, the prospect appeals even less to me. I am not a vain person, I just prefer to be on the other side of the camera. My avatar that I use is one I have had for a while on most platforms, and I have convinced myself that it is good personal branding to keep some consistency on all social media platforms, which is true to some degree. Besides, the thought of actually trying to find another picture of myself has always felt like a painful process, until now.
I believe I have finally, after years of looking for the right style, found the exact look I could carry into the next few years as my avatar. The look would be based on these photos taken by Lithuanian photographer Tadas Cerniakas which you see below. During his Design Week Exhibition last Friday, he asked people to pose for some unique photographs. They stood in front of the camera and gave their cheesiest grin and pose while Tadas blasted their faces with air, which created quite a remarkable result. The hilarious portraits titled ‘Blow Job!’ had the models in fits of laughter throughout the entire shoot.
Tadas Cerniakas created around 100 portraits in the process, and when asked about his humorous snaps, he said, “I wanted to do something fun for myself and the visitors just to laugh and have a good time. I was surprised that there were so many laid-back people who were not afraid to look funny! The spacious studio was bursting at the seems and everyone was crying with laughter, laughing at themselves and at each other.” So keep an eye on my avatar and maybe a gust of laughter.
I believe this could start a wave of new looking avatars across Twitter as the world embraces Tadas Cerniakas’ lighthearted look at how we photographs ourselves. I have already been in trouble at home by taking my wife’s hair dryer and blasting myself in the face to try and create my own version. She actually didn’t see the funny side until I shared these pictures with her. We are now thinking of having a family portrait done with my wife, our son, daughter and myself. I can already hear the sounds of pride emanating from the grandparents homes!
