Unbelievable Book Carvings Let Books Tell Another Story

There is something special about books that make a lot of people care about them. Books have been in our lives for so long, and just a couple of years ago we started migrating books into the digital “eBook” format so we could easily buy and download them from an Internet store. This has lead to real books becoming obsolete in a way, and we don’t really know what to do with them anymore. Some people are of course against this whole new technology, and they keep buying books from their local book store, if there is one. But the change is inevitable, and the sooner we change our way of thinking, the faster we will adapt to the new way of reading books. As I have said before, what will happen with all the old traditional books once they are available online? Is there a use for them anymore?

Some people don’t think so, and they set out to create stunning art with them. Whether they stack them into some monumental epicness or just use them as a harder piece of clay that gets carved into something out of this world doesn’t really matter. Some people will always be offended when artists go about their daily work and create something crazy out of perfectly fine books. I am more of the opinion that creativity always needs an outlet, and in this case (as long as it’s not a rare book) I find that some of the creations are mind boggling, and they give an old dusty book a new meaning with a non force-fed spotlight.

You should really have a look at the amazing work of  Brian Dettmer, and you will understand what I mean. I have written about Brian previously, and we have featured several of his surreal book carvings, but there is always room for more. This is especially true when it’s taken to a whole new level of awesomeness. How he manages to stay focused through the thousands of pages that he has to cut through, I don’t know. But the result is anything but boring, and the creativeness is definitely blinding. These are fresh works of art that I hope most of you will find quite inspiring.
